Thai people are very friendly and welcoming to foreigners.
Their culture is very tolerant and accepting and based upon Buddhist principles.
Whenever I travel, I try to learn at least the VERY basic words to allow me to get around.
By learning a few words, your interactions with people will be more meaningful, you’ll be able to connect with the people better and thus experience the culture better as well.
Don’t worry if you aren’t perfect, the locals usually appreciate your efforts in trying to speak their language.
