“The Quieter You Become, the More You Can Hear”
The Buddha
When I was working long hours in a stress-filled professional career, I would often feel exhausted and burned out. Over time, it started to take its toll on me. I started looking for ways to decompress and signed up for a yoga class at the local gym. In my first class, I could feel the tension melt away and it was so relaxing. It helped to bring down my stress levels, so I continued taking more classes and eventually started practicing myself.
For those of you who have high-stress careers, it’s crucial for your health to find ways to release your stress. Chronic stress can affect your cardiovascular system, heart, brain, skin, and other organs of your body. It can make one more likely to develop diabetes, obesity, hypertension, and a list of other maladies.

Restorative Yoga
Restorative yoga is a wonderful practice that can nurture your mind, body, and spirit. It can help you relax, recharge, and heal from the stress and fatigue of your busy life.
Restorative yoga is a style of yoga that encourages physical, mental, and emotional relaxation. It’s different from other styles of yoga that focus on movement, strength, and flexibility. In restorative yoga, you use props like bolsters, blankets, and pillows to support your body in comfortable and gentle poses. You hold these poses for longer periods of time, usually 5 to 20 minutes, and focus on your breath and your sensations. You don’t need to do any work or effort, just let go and surrender to the pose.

Benefits
There are numerous benefits to restorative yoga including:
- It relaxes your nervous system. When you’re stressed, your nervous system activates the fight-or-flight mode, which increases your heart rate, blood pressure, and muscle tension. Over time, this can lead to insomnia, anxiety, depression, headaches, digestive issues, and more. Restorative yoga helps to slow down your brain and nervous system, thus calming your mind and body.
- It improves your circulation. Better circulation means better blood flow to your internal organs, skin, kidneys, and other areas. his increased blood help to flush out toxins, and delivers oxygen and nutrients to your cells. It also stimulates your immune system which helps you fight infections and inflammation.
- It helps with flexibility which is important to prevent injuries and reduce pain and stiffness. By gently stretching the ligaments and tendons and holding poses for longer periods, it allows them to slowly elongate and improve mobility.
- It promotes well-being and mindfulness. Being mindful, you can reduce negative thoughts and emotions, such as worry, anger, or sadness, and increase positive ones, such as gratitude, joy, or compassion.

As you can see, restorative yoga is a powerful and beneficial practice that can improve your health and happiness in many ways.
