Easy Habits to Save Help Save the Planet

Saving the environment is a responsibility that we all share, and it can start with some simple changes in our daily habits.

Here are some tips to reduce our environmental impact and live more sustainably!

Eat Plant-Based Food

Eat more plant-based foods and less meat and dairy. Animal products have a high carbon footprint and contribute to greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation, and water pollution. By eating more fruits, vegetables, grains, and beans, you can lower your carbon footprint by 8 pounds per day, improve your health, and save money

Chose Seasonal and Organic Foods

Choose organic, local, and seasonal foods whenever possible. These foods have less environmental impact than conventional, imported, and out-of-season foods, which require more pesticides, fertilizers, transportation, and refrigeration. Organic, local, and seasonal foods are also fresher, tastier, and more nutritious. Try to buy your fruits and vegetables at the local Farmer’s Market. This is better for the environment and it directly supports local farmers and the economy; I love going to the Hilo Farmer’s market where there are artisan foods, tropical flowers, fresh produce, and Hawaiian music playing! I Love it!

Buy High-Quality Clothers

Buy less clothing and choose quality over quantity. Fast fashion is a major source of waste, pollution, and carbon emissions. It also exploits workers and harms animals. By buying less clothing and choosing durable, natural, and ethically made fabrics, you can reduce your environmental impact, save money, and support fair trade.

Use less energy and water at home. You can save energy and money by switching to LED bulbs, unplugging appliances when not in use, adjusting your thermostat, and using renewable energy sources. You can save water and money by installing low-flow showerheads and faucets, fixing leaks, taking shorter showers, and collecting rainwater for gardening.

• Recycle, reuse, and compost your waste. Recycling helps conserve natural resources, reduce pollution, and save energy. Reusing helps reduce waste, save money, and spark creativity. Composting helps enrich the soil, reduce landfill emissions, and grow healthy plants.

Travel Less by Car

Travel less by car and more by public transport, bike, or foot. Driving a car emits carbon dioxide and other pollutants that contribute to climate change and air quality problems. By taking public transport, biking, or walking, you can reduce your carbon footprint, save money, improve your fitness, and enjoy the scenery.

These are just some of the ways you can adjust your habits to save the environment daily. By making these small changes, you can also improve your health and well-being, save money, and inspire others to do the same.

Remember, every action counts and every person can make a difference. 😊
