Morocco

Morocco is located in North Africa, bordering the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. It has a population of about 37 million people, and its official languages are Arabic and Berber.

Morocco is also known for its rich culture, which reflects its Arab, Berber, African, and European influences. You can see this in its architecture, art, music, cuisine, and traditions.

Some of the most popular destinations in Morocco are its ancient cities, or medinas, where you can experience the authentic Moroccan lifestyle. You can wander through the narrow streets, shop at the colorful souks (markets), visit the historic mosques and palaces, and enjoy the local delicacies. Some of the most famous medinas are:

Rabat

The capital of Morocco and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Rabat has a mix of modern and traditional elements, and it is home to the Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the Kasbah of the Udayas.

Casablanca

The largest city and the economic hub of Morocco. Casablanca is known for its cosmopolitan vibe and its impressive landmarks, such as the Hassan II Mosque, the second-largest mosque in the world, and the Art Deco buildings in the city center.

Fez

The cultural and spiritual center of Morocco and another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Fez has the oldest and largest medina in the world, with over 9,000 streets and alleys. Fez is also famous for its leather tanneries, its pottery workshops, and its medieval university.

Marrakech

The tourist capital and the most visited city in Morocco. Marrakech is a vibrant and colorful city, with a lively square called Djemaa El Fna, where you can see snake charmers, acrobats, storytellers, and musicians. Marrakech is also surrounded by the stunning Atlas Mountains, where you can go hiking, and skiing.

Other popular medinas that you can visit are Chefchaouen, the blue city in the Rif Mountains, Meknes, the imperial city with a grand gate called Bab Mansour, and Essaouira, the coastal city with a relaxed atmosphere and a Portuguese fortress.

Morocco is not only about its cities, though. It also has amazing natural attractions, such as the Sahara Desert, where you can camp under the stars and watch the sunrise over the sand dunes, the Ouzoud Waterfalls, the highest waterfalls in North Africa, and the Todra Gorge, a spectacular canyon with rock walls up to 300 meters high.
