In the Tracks of Giants

By Ian McCallum

To walk in the wake of elephants,

to be small in a world of giants

to learn the spoor of silence,

and the deep rumbling eloquence

of kin.

To move in the skin of elephants,

to feel the alliance of sand,

the contours of land

and the far reaching pull

of water.

To be alive to the sway of elephants,

to remember the songs of seasons,

the ancient lines of migrations,

and loosen your reasons

for fences

To wake up to the web of intelligence,

to the wild origins of sentience,

to find your voice and raise it,

that others may raise theirs’

for elephants.

We are more than just ourselves. We’re intimately connected with this Earth and its species. I believe the human species, somewhere along the way, lost its path and acknowledgment of the interconnectedness between us, other species, and the world. Biodiversity is the interdependence of species with one another and the Earth.

Environmental destruction and poaching have caused many animal species to dwindle.  Sometimes the newborns’ mothers are killed in accidents, through droughts, by predators, and by loss of habitat. And unfortunately, due to climate change from human overpopulation and pollution, habitat destruction is worsening and causing the near extinction of hundreds of species.

Have you ever wanted to leave your legacy? One where you will be remembered and celebrated for your kindness and contributions to this world.

I’m a supporter of Legacy Giving to WildLife Rehabilitation programs. By giving back to this beautiful world, we are leaving a legacy of love and rehabilitation for threatened species and this Earth.  Consider giving towards preserving and rehabilitating wildlife, and make a lasting contribution that will endure for generations.
